THE MARU APPROACH

Treatment at the center.
Testing and follow-up in one flow.

Maru Animal Hospital examines each pet’s condition and plans treatment together with the owner. Telomere, chamber and quantum-related approaches are also explained on the basis of the veterinarian’s clinical judgment and the evidence for each animal.

We connect Director Son Hwa-seop’s clinical and treatment records with analysis data from specialized testing companies — reviewing treatment, understanding test results and recording progress, all together.

01 / TELOMERE

Connecting telomere research
with animal health.

Maru’s materials present a companion-animal telomere research lab and anti-aging care as its clinical direction. On this website, explanations of the treatment approach and the test that analyzes telomere length are presented separately.

SCIENCE BEHIND THE QUESTION

The scientific reasons
behind telomeres.

Cell principles, observational animal studies and experimental treatment research.
Let’s look at what the evidence does — and does not — say.

Basic biology

The structure that protects chromosome ends

Telomeres are repetitive DNA sequences at the ends of chromosomes, and telomerase is the enzyme that synthesizes them. The discovery of this protection and maintenance mechanism was the subject of the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

What this evidence tells us +

It is a basic principle for understanding cells and chromosomes. The Nobel Prize does not certify the effectiveness of any particular hospital treatment or device.

Telomeres and lifespan

A 2012 study reported an association between telomere length in blood mononuclear cells and average breed lifespan across 15 dog breeds. This is one reason telomeres are examined in animal aging research.

What this evidence tells us +

This study looks at associations at the breed level. It does not calculate an individual animal’s remaining lifespan or prove that treatment extended lifespan, and blood-study results cannot be equated with the performance of an oral-sample test product.

Experimental use of telomerase

A 2012 study delivered the telomerase gene to adult and aged mice using an AAV9 vector. Under the study conditions, improvements in some health markers and an increase in median lifespan were reported.

What this evidence tells us +

This is a specific gene therapy experiment in mice. It did not use chamber or wave equipment and cannot be taken as evidence that the same results occur in dogs, cats or Maru’s treatments.

From research to clinical care

The connection Maru aims for is research principles → test results → clinical judgment for each animal → progress records. We explain the scientific background and real-world results separately.

How to understand treatment

Whether a treatment is applied follows the veterinarian’s clinical judgment. No technology or test result alone guarantees recovery, cure or a longer life.

TREATMENT MEETS ANALYSIS

Specialized testing partnerships
connected to treatment.

Our testing partnerships connect analysis data that helps understand a pet’s condition with clinical care. The lab’s role is analysis and reporting; the hospital’s role is interpretation and explanation based on clinical information.

Before testingThe right test for your pet

We review your questions and clinical information together and explain the purpose and items of each test.

After testingLinking results to care

We read the results alongside symptoms and history and discuss the next steps for care.

THE CLINICAL FOUNDATION

The foundation of treatment is
careful examination and explanation.

Maru Animal Hospital is built on Director Son Hwa-seop’s veterinary practice and the research of our telomere lab. Which treatment to provide is decided by a veterinarian who has examined your pet directly.

Examine, test, explain — and back to everyday life.
Maru is with you through it all.

CONSULTATION & VISIT

The first step for your pet:
one consultation at a time.

For owners curious about our treatment approach and testing, here is how to prepare and what the care process looks like.

What can I consult about?

  • Questions about Maru’s treatment approaches such as telomere and chamber
  • Purpose and interpretation of telomere, oral and genetic tests
  • Ongoing concerns and progress after previous treatment
  • Health care and monitoring for senior pets

Whether an approach applies depends on species, age, symptoms and history. Eligibility for care and treatment must be confirmed by our veterinary team.

From first visit to follow-up

  1. First consultation — We organize current symptoms, previous records and your questions together.
  2. Clinical and test review — The veterinarian decides which tests and care are needed.
  3. Plan explanation — We confirm and agree on the process, estimated costs and precautions.
  4. Follow-up check — We review changes in condition and any follow-up care needed.

This is a general guide; the order and content may vary with the animal’s condition.

BEFORE YOUR VISIT

A little preparation
makes for a fuller conversation.

Please bring three things
that help describe your pet’s condition.

01

Recent changes

Note when and what changed. Photos or videos of unusual behavior also help.

02

Previous records

Bring previous test results, medical records and the names of current medications, so you don’t have to repeat yourself.

03

Your questions

Write down your main concerns and what you want to ask, so nothing important is missed.

Frequently asked before a visit

Can test results alone determine my pet’s health?+

Each test measures different information and has its own limits. Results should be interpreted together with symptoms, history and clinical findings.

Should I bring test results from other hospitals?+

Previous records help us understand changes and clinical progress. Please also note the test dates and current medications.

How should I describe my pet’s condition?+

Note when the change started, how often, eating and activity, and any unusual behavior. Photos or videos are also helpful.
